PURPLE is enigmatic Berlin-via-Portugal singer, songwriter, producer and core member of the rising WEDIDIT collective (RL Grime, Shlohmo) aka Luis Dourado. He first burst onto the music scene in 2013 with his debut Salvation EP, which introduced the world to his signature hazy, dark and emotionally driven sound. Pitchfork crowned the lead track “The Club” a “sonic gem” and FACT described the follow up track “Feel Alone” as “striking.” It was shortly followed by the Salvation Remixes EP that featured remixes by friends Shlohmo, IVVVO and Jim-E Stack.
In addition to his musical explorations, Luis has established himself as a lauded visual artist. His work has been published in various renowned publications such as The New York Times Magazine, collaborated with publishers such as Gestalten and exhibited his series in galleries such as the esteemed Arnolfini in England. Needless to say, Luis’ love for the visual arts significantly shapes the music he creates and the two will forever remain deeply intertwined.
Most recently, he revealed the lead track “Extinction” from his debut album Silence & Remorse, which sees him exploring his talent as singer and delving deeper into his innermost emotions and personal struggles. Silence & Remorse will be out later this Spring via WEDIDIT.
